Volkswagen India has unveiled the second generation Tiguan at the auto expo 2016. The company plans to launch it in the country later this year. Volkswagen Tiguan is confirmed to be launched in a new lineup with 4 petrol and 4 diesel engine variants. While power outputs for the petrol and diesel engines are not released yet, the figures are to be in the range of 123 hp to 236 hp. The new engines are claimed to be 24% more fuel efficient than the previous models. A front-wheel drive system is offered on the base variants. The higher end variants are offered a 4Motion all-wheel drive (AWD) system.
Volkswagen Tiguan has many influences from the VW Cross Coupe GTE. The boxy crossover looks of the previous model have been dropped. The dimensions of the Tiguan have been increased over the previous year’s model, with a 70mm increase in length, 30.5mm increase in width and a 33mm reduction in height. The wheelbase has been increased by 76mm.
Volkswagen Tiguan features a pair of angular headlamps with LED DRLs that transition smoothly into the front grille. The rims are 18 inch large and made of alloy. Chrome is present subtly on the Tiguan, with a chrome element on the front wing and a chrome line that runs across the length of the car on the side. The window lines and the roof rails have a chrome underlining as well.
Volkswagen Tiguan features premium interior with a 5-inch infotainment display as standard,. An 8-inch infotainment touchscreen system is provided as an option. An optional 12.3 inch Active info Display system is also provided. It displays the instrument dials and navigation in full screen. A panoramic sunroof is available as well, which is the largest in its class.
