A little bit of research tells me that auto insurance scams are more common than we think, with fraud being part of 1 out of every 3 claims in New York City. China, however seems to take the front place in this matter. Road insurance scams are not unprecedented in China. In 2013, a case was reported from the city of Shenzen where a man was arrested after crashing his car every three days for three years in order to claim insurance. Talk of some hardcore dedication right there! There are even instances when car drivers have faked being hit by another car to claim compensation. Guess what they do; back into the other car!

It has been widely reported in China that several individuals have tried to claim compensation from drivers by acting as if they got knocked down by their vehicles. One video even shows a youth running up to a stationary car and jumping onto it as if he got hit, only to be told by the driver that he had the entire incident recorded on camera. Now, these scams have percolated into other cities such as Hong Kong as well. Taxi Drivers in Hong Kong have faced such incidents from Chinese people who come to Hong Kong on a tourist visa.

With such incidents on the rise, many drivers are installing cameras to capture footage of their journeys to use as proof of their innocence. Given the mass use of cellphones and cameras in many of the modern cars, such incidents may soon become a thing of the past. Here is a six minute compilation of auto insurance scammers who look completely ridiculous in plying out their trade. Take a close look at video at 3:50 as a tiny woman with a cane literally runs into a stationary car. Now, that is dedication to your craft.

It’s never too late to buy a dashboard camcorder to document your daily drives. These incidents are being reported in many parts of the world. It’s better to be safe than get into trouble with these scam artists!
