It was launched in the Brussels Motor Show in January, 1980 and the French automaker built 3576 units of the 5 Turbo also known as the R5 Turbo. It was equipped with a mid-mounted 1.4-liter turbocharged engine producing 160 hp and 221 Nm of torque. With a top speed of 200 kmph (120 mph) and 0-100 kph of 6.9 seconds and a kerb weight of just 970 kgs. Suffice to say, it was a very fast hatchback! The R5 Turbo 2 had similar levels of performance as the previous version but was less expensive to purchase. He was born in the Le Mans, 15 mins away from the legendary circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans and his father worked in the Renault factory.
For Christophe, his love for Renault, mechanics, automobiles and repairs runs in his blood! In 1980 he had a chance to drive a brand new R5 Turbo and the rest they say is history!
