If you are a motorcyclist who loves touring long distances then ensuring your electronic devices have enough battery to last the day is undoubtedly a major concern. We often find that our mobile phone, GoPro, GPS Navigation, mp3 player and perhaps even the powerbank used to charge a multitude of devices run out of juice quickly on a long day’s ride. Having a reliable power supply on your motorcycle that will charge your device reliably, letting you concentrate on your ride is extremely important! That’s where Resonate ChargePLUS motorcycle USB charger comes into the picture to quickly solve this problem faced by motorcyclists everywhere.
Resonate is a Bangalore city based company that aims to simplify lives and expand possibilities with solutions that make everyday life easier. One of their products is an outdoor friendly device aimed at bikers. Resonate ChargePlus motorcycle USB charger with 2A output can charge any electronic device that can be charged using an USB port.
Note: Resonate has recently updated the device with a an easier mounting system. The device we received for testing is the latest version called ChargePLUS Pro Uno which ships with the aluminium alloy mount. For the purposes of our review we’ll call it ChargePLUS.

Design and Quality:
Resonate ChargePLUS charging unit and all its accessories that come in the packaging are made of high quality materials. The unit and it’s mounting system is built of high quality abrasion resistant aluminium alloy. The 3m fire resistant cabling can be safely passed over or around your motorcycle’s engine into the battery compartment. Resonate claims IPX7 waterproof rating which means that you can safely use this device in the rain. We’ll update this article once we test the waterproofing of the device. However, you will face no issues washing your motorcycle with this device mounted on your bike. As long as your mobile or GPS navigation device is waterproof you can use ChargePLUS to charge them when riding under torrential downpour.
How do I Install it?
Installation is a fairly simple and a straight forward task. Resonate ChargePLUS motorcycle USB charger has reversible terminals. On the unit’s cable, there is no need to find the correct terminal for positive or negative end of the battery. Either one will do. Once you figure out how you will pass the cable through your bike from the handlebar to the battery you are good to proceed with the installation. The cable is long and sufficient for larger cruisers such as a Harley RoadKing or a Triumph Thunderbird Storm. On smaller bikes, the excess cable can be zip-tied under the seat.
You can either use the zip ties to mount it on the handlebar or any other location of choice. This is how I mounted it on the Yamaha R3. I wanted it to be a little discreet and away from prying eyes. In case of the KTM Duke you can use the zip ties to either mount it on the handlebar, or use the metal mount to fix it to the threaded part of the rear view mirror. You can also use the zip-ties to mount it parallel to the ignition-key of the KTM Duke.
There are a few more pictures in the image gallery on the next page where you can see how we have installed it on a few bikes (Harley Iron 883, CBR250R, Yamaha FZ16 etc). Note: We took the quickest way to install it (due to lack of time) but with some effort you can find other locations where you can easily mount it so that it doesn’t catch attention easily yet remains easily accessible to connect your device.
How fast does it charge?
Resonate ChargePLUS motorcycle USB charger has a 2A output which is sufficient for most devices. I was able to charge my dead phone to useable levels of charge within minutes of connecting it to the charger. If you are using your phone with GPS navigation and mobile-data turned-on (both activities drain the battery quickly) you can expect Resonate ChargePLUS to charge your phone at a slightly lower rate but it will still charge it upto 100% and maintain the charge easily. This USB-charger will ensure your action-cam has ample charge to last the day. The fast charging capability of this unit left me pleasantly surprised! I did notice Resonate ChargePLUS unit to heat up under use but it’s normal and nothing to be worried about.
What’s not to like?
Not much really other than the lack of a clamp-type mounting system. Resonate is considering it but the current mounting bracket is the better solution. It allows you to mount it to a Ram Mount and you’re sorted!
However, you cannot retrofit the new mounting system of the Pro Uno on your older device if you have one. Also, if you were looking for a 12-volt socket similar to the unit in your car then this is not for you. 100% waterproofing with such an unit can be a daunting task and hence Resonate felt this unit-type to offer a better solution to anyone looking for a reliable power supply on their motorcycles. You may have to look elsewhere if running an air-pump is your primary concern.
Resonate has designed solution in this regard but it’s not available on sale just yet. But, a twin-port USB charger is likely to available on sale prior to to 12-volt socket.
Resonate ChargePLUS Price:
Resonate ChargePLUS motorcycle USB charger is priced at INR 3,499 but it’s available at INR 2,800 with most sellers. The unit has been built keeping in mind quality, reliability, longevity and most importantly the safety of your motorcycle’s battery. The pricing isn’t cheap, but it’s affordable. It’s targeted at customers of premium motorcycles but the important thing is that you have complete peace of mind when using it.
Why should I buy it?
With IPX7 waterproof rating it can be used in extended rains. The build quality is likely to sustain weekend washes, rains and heavy use for a few years. It may even survive if you end up in a mild-crash. The new mounting system is easy, clean and doesn’t vibrate once it’s mounted properly. Offer’s a great solution to the alternative way of mounting using zip-ties.
Since the unit is directly connected to the battery it will charge your phone even when your motorcycle is turned off. However, Resonate ChargePLUS motorcycle USB charger has an in-built fail safe system which stops charging your device as soon as the battery charge level drops to 12.2 volts. See the following picture with the unit displaying the red light when the battery dropped to 12.2 volts:
