Piaggio India has confirmed the launch of the Vespa 300GTS and the Vespa 946 in India this year. The scooters will be special edition models. They will be imported into the county via the CBU channel. The Vespa 300GTS and the Vespa 946 will be priced at a premium cost. The scooters were showcased at the auto expo last month. The Italian manufacturer is looking to expand rapidly in India and is improving its dealer network. The new Vespa models will be imported into the country by the second quarter of 2016.
Vespa 300GTS is coming to India
The Vespa 300GTS is powered by a single cylinder 278cc liquid cooled engine with fuel injection. The engine will produce a peak power of 21.2hp @ 7500rpm and 22.3Nm of torque @ 5250rpm. The braking setup is a single disc at the front and the rear. The claimed top speed will be 128.74kmph. With this, the Vespa 300GTS will be the biggest scooter in the country at present. The Vespa 300GTS is sold in the USA at an MSRP of $6899. This will translate to about ₹4.6 lakhs in India. Considering the import duties and the tax, the asking price for the Vespa 300GTS will be well over 7 lakhs.
Vespa 946 is coming to India
The Vespa 946 is a special model that celebrates the collaboration of the Vespa brand with Emporio Armani. It is powered by a 125cc engine with 3 valves. The scooter has ABS and traction control which is a unique offering. While prices have not been announced yet, the Vespa 946 is sold in the USA at a MSRP of $10,000. This equates to a price of a little less than ₹ 7 lakhs in the country. Considering the import duties and taxes, the price may as well shoot up to 12 lakhs. This will be one expensive scooter!
