Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard Launched in India

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has been launched in India. It is the most expensive offering from the brand, at a price of ₹ 10 crore (ex-showroom). The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard was first showcased at the Auto Expo in Delhi in February 2016. It is the first vehicle to be certified with the highest level of ballistic protection level for civilian vehicles. It gets a VR10 protection rating along with a ERV 2010 explosion resistance rating.

IAA 2015

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 guard is based on the Maybach S600 platform it is powered by a 6.0 liter V12 engine that generates 523hp and a peak torque of 830Nm. The transmission is a 7G-Tronic 7-speed automatic transmission. Due to safety reasons, the top speed of the car is limited to 190kmph.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 Guard has been certified to protect against hardened steel core bullets that are fired from an assault rifle. The ballistic protection materials are integrated into the body panels in such a way that the exterior looks similar to the regular Maybach S600. There are steel integrated into the gaps between the body structure and the outer skin. The materials are overlapped at critical points to create the ballistic protective later. The laminated windows are thick and coated with polycarbonate on the inside to protect against splinter protection.

The test criteria for the ERV 2010 is not known. There is underbody armor that will protect against explosive devices that are set beneath the car. To cope with the additional weight of the ballistic materials and the underbody armor, the suspension of the Maybach S600 Guard has been strengthened to handle the weight. The car weighs a considerable 2335kg. There are other safety equipment that come standard with the car such as an automatic fire suppression system and an emergency fresh air circulation system. The Maybach S600 Guard runs on exclusive Michelin PAX run-flat tires that provide a drive range of about 30km even under damaged conditions.

With such features and a ₹ 10.5 crore base price, the Maybach S600 Guard provides all the luxury you would want and does not look any different to a standard car apart from the fact that it is a Merc.
