The McLaren P1 was one of the most eagerly anticipated hypercars of 2014. It was regarded as one of the best driver’s cars in the world. While it was not the fastest, or the loudest, nor the most technically awe inspiring or the most powerful, it simply did one thing right. It provided the best driving experience you could possibly have. For McLaren, the P1 was the car that had to win. Considering the heat the company took when it released the MP4-12C in 2011, the P1 had to succeed. With a 903bhp power unit, advanced carbon fiber construction and extremely well designed aerodynamics, the P1 put the Woking-based manufacturer on the supercar map. Now, here is the McLaren P1 limited edition!
To celebrate the success of the P1, McLaren has created a special edition of the car. It is incredible! It boasts of a stunning hand-laid carbon fiber body with bespoke ‘Lio Blue’ tinted lacquer. McLaren’s Special Operations division has given this car a complete makeover! The wheels are gloss black. The interior is a full carbon black Alcantara with contrasting blue stitching. The heat shield is forged from 24-carat gold, in homage to the iconic McLaren F1.
The limited edition McLaren P1 will be revealed in all its glory at the Geneva Motor Show this March. It will be displayed next to the one-off 675LT Spider. While the Spider does not get the special treatment that the P1 has, it still features a carbon fiber hard top, carbon fiber airbrake and carbon fiber louvres on the front wings. The whole car has stunning ceramic grey paint finish.
Performance of the 675LT Spider remains unchanged. It is powered by a 3.8-litre twin turbo V8 engine generating 666bhp and 700Nm of torque. The Spider variant matches the 675LT coupé from 0-62mph, with a time of 2.9sec and has a top speed of 203mph. Now that is a car that makes me go weak in the knees and gives me goosebumps. Talk about Autoporn early in the morning. Not a bad way to start the day.
