The Maserati Levante SUV has been showcased at the Geneva Motor Show. It is the first SUV from the Italian automaker and was eagerly anticipated by fans, enthusiasts and the automotive world. Maserati revealed the Levante SUV through pictures, but didn’t say much about the SUV itself. Now, the SUV has been unveiled in all its glory at the Geneva Motor Show.
The Maserati Levante is the first SUV from Maserati. It gets three engine options. All the variants are turbocharged 3. Liter V6 engines with different output and fuel requirements. The base Levante has a 350hp engine that generates 498Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 6.0 seconds. That is the same as the base Maserati Ghibli. The Levante S gets a more powerful engine that generates 430hp and 578Nm of torque which is more than the Ghibli S. This enables the Levante S variant to hit the 0-100kmph mark in 5.2 seconds. The diesel engine variant generates a peak power of 275hp and also the maximum torque of all the variants at 599Nm. The diesel powered Levante hits the 0-100kmph mark in 6.9 seconds. All the Levante SUV models are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive and a limited slip differential.
With the first SUV, Maserati has broken into the crossover game along with the likes of Porsche, Bengley and Jaguar. Even Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Lotus and Rolls Royce look set to put their hands into the game. While Maserati has not gotten here first, it has certainly done a good job of it. The Levante puts the Italian automaker in a good position from which to grow, and grow big.
