Is the Koenigsegg Regera the Bugatti Chiron Killer?

The Bugatti Chiron has been turning heads ever since its inception and eventually showcasing at the Geneva Motor Show. With nearly 1500hp under the bonnet, you would think that hypercars wouldn’t get any hyper (for now). Well, put your thinking cap back on, for they just have. Meet the Koenigsegg Regera, the plug-in hybrid that can best the Chiron. The Koenigsegg Regera was showcased first at the Geneva Motor Show last year. Now, Koenigsegg has confirmed production of the plug-in hybrid rocketship-of-a-car. With a weight of just 3505 pounds, it is lighter than the Chiron by nearly a 1000 pounds. The Regera has a claimed horsepower in excess of 1500hp and over 2000Nm of torque. SCARY. Can anything beat this?

The Regera’s stats don’t seem as impressive as the Chiron’s at first glance. The Regera does the 0-100kmph sprint in 2.8 seconds, while the Chiron does it under 2.5 seconds. Granted, 0-100kmph numbers are becoming less and less relevant for today’s hypercars. The Regera does the 0-200kmph sprint in 6.6 seconds, while the Veyron takes 6.5 seconds. Where the Regera bites is when it hits the 300kmph mark in just 10.9 seconds. Bugatti Veyron takes 13.5 seconds to do the same. The Regera is a frighteningly 2.6 seconds faster than one of the fastest hypercars on the planet. It is very scary, given the fact that the Regera can go from 0-top speed (400kmph) in 20 seconds. The Veyron has a higher top speed, at 420kmph.

The Koenigsegg Regera signals a new era in Megacar performance. Over 3000 changes have been made from the concept to the production ready version. This has resulted in significant weight savings. The wet weight is only 1590kg. The Regera also has an all-new patent pending Koenigsegg Direct Drive System. This system eliminates the weight, complexity and the mechanical losses that are typical in a traditional gearbox system. The result is a seamless and blistering acceleration. A new clutch-slip mechanism has been developed that uses hydraulic coupling to convert torque at medium and high speeds to give the engine more revs and power.

The Regera has Formula 1 grade battery pack. The battery pack has hand built cells that provide improved performance and regenerative capability. The battery pack is 25kg lighter than the one that was shown in the concept version. The new Formula 1 grade battery pack now weighs about 90kg and produces enough power to accelerate the Regera from 0-300kmph in 10.9 seconds.

Power has never been this brutal, efficient, fast and easy to use. The Koenigsegg Regera is the game changing Megacar and shows us what the future can bring. It is the king. The undisputed King.
