BMW X1 has been launched at the Delhi Auto Expo. Prices start from ₹ 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The BMW X1 is the company’s entry level SUV. The X1 is to compete with the Mercedes Benz GLA and the Audi Q3. The BMW X1 is powered by a 2.0 litre turbocharged diesel engine. BMW X1 launched at Auto Expo has an engine produces 187.4 hp @ 4000 rpm and 400 Nm of torque @ 1750 rpm.
The X1 achieves the 0 – 100 kmph mark in 7.9 seconds. The top speed is 205 kmph. A petrol engine variant is likely to be released later in the year. The Engine layout is transverse, which replaces the previously used longitudinal layout. This improves the safety credentials of the SUV. The gear box is an 8-speed automatic and it comes with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system.
BMW X1 launched at Auto Expo is based on the UKL platform which allows for a massive weight reduction of 135 kg. The new X1 uses components made from hot- formed high–strength steel and aluminum within the main body structure. The cabin space has been enlarged because of the wider and the taller body shell. The LED head and tail lamp units have been updated in form to resemble BMW’s signature 2-part front grille.
Due to the increased dimensions, the over presence of the X1 has been improved. The wheel base has been increased by 90mm. The boot space has been increased by 85 liters and rear leg room has been increased by 37mm.
The BMW X1 has a host of electronic features such as ABS, airbags, engine immobilizer, reverse parking sensors, electronically adjustable outside mirrors and central locking system.
The BMW X1 is now open for bookings, and delivery is expected to commence in April 2016. The BMW X1 retails at ₹ 29.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) and goes all the way up to ₹ 39.90 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
