In October 1983, Brazilian racing driver Nelson Piquet became the Formula 1 World Champion driving the Brabham BMW. He was the first champion in a turbo-powered car.
BMW Motorsport was established in 1972. It is responsible for all the motorsport activities of the brand. It is also known as BMW M division.
The BMW X5 SUV debuted in 1999 with a manual or automatic four-wheel drive system. It shares technology and engineering systems with the 5-series sedans, but with a bigger body and unibody chassis. It is now in its 3rd generation.
In 1994, BMW took over the British Rover Group which included the brands Rover, MG, Mini and Land Rover. Now, only Mini remains a BMW brand. The Mini Cooperis one of the most iconic cars of our day and age.
