2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 has 640hp and races to New York Auto Show 2016

The new 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 packs a lot of firepower thanks to its 640hp engine derived from the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. The 2017 Camaro ZL1 uses 10-speed automatic transmission but enthusiasts can also go for a 6 speed manual transmission if they want to. This is the first time any General Motors car will use a 10-speed auto-tranny. 10 gears is indeed a lot but that’s what GM thought would be sufficient to manage the horsepower on the Camaro ZL1.

The supercharged 2017 Camaro ZL1 now makes more power than any factory-built version of the Camaro since it’s inception. It’s also supposedly 200 lbs lighter than its predecessor. This is surely going to pose a problem for the Dodge Challenger Hellcat. The Hellcat with its 707 hp is a lot heavier and on paper as well as on-road the new Camaro will be able to best the Hellcat thanks to its better power-to-weight ratio.

The 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 will be available on sale later this year as 2017 model across dealerships in the United States. Personally, I think the Camaro ZL1 looks fantastic! It would be awesome to drive one and see how that 10-speed gearbox performs along with all the horsepower it’s packing!
